Necessity Is Indeed The Mother Of Invention

It was the early 1980’s and I was a carpenter working alongside many other construction workers.

The work was very hard, swinging a hammer 8 to 10 hours a day, and we oftentimes carried heavy loads.

As a result, I suffered numerous back injuries resulting in severe pain.

At first the pain was only in my lower back and lasted for a few days, but the pain was so intense that working was impossible.  I simply had to stay in bed until I got better.

As quickly as I could I went back to the same type of work because I needed to feed my family.

It wasn’t long before I reinjured my back.  I went through this injury cycle again and
again.

Every injury was more severe than the one before and now the pain was not only in my lower back but also down my leg and into my foot, (sciatica), and every injury took longer to heal than the last.

If you have experienced this type of pain, I know just what it feels like. It hurts like Hell!

Being out of money from not working, I realized I could not stay down any longer so I tried to find a way to heal myself.

I found that leaning on things like countertops and hanging from things with my hands like a chin up bar gave me some relief.  But I couldn’t get enough relief leaning and I couldn’t hang long enough by my hands.

I tried inversion tables which were the big thing at the time but they hurt my ankles and I couldn’t relax.

So, I set out to make something I could hang from comfortably and just let half my bodyweight hang and stretch to get the full relief I was looking for.  Without
knowing it, I was designing a completely unique gravity traction device.

It took me a while before I built the first rudimentary device.  Hey I was still in crazy pain.

You scale pain from 1 to 10 with 10 being extreme.  I was a full 10 in pain when I set up my device.

In the garage and I suspended the device a foot or so off the ground.  I kneeled down in front of it, suspended my upper body from it and let my hips hang down to let gravity pull my lower bodyweight and spine downward.

I went from a 10 in pain to zero pain in 1 second flat!  I swear to you this is the truth! The relief just took my breath away. The pain had vanished.  It was like a true miracle.

One minute later, I knew I wanted to share this device with the world and I was in business!

This was the birth of The Back Bubble.
